The summer is a great time to try new hairstyles, well at least for me. This is the time of year I like to explore with my hair.
This year, I installed DIY crochet faux locs for the first time.
And, I love how they turned out.
The faux locs I used for the install were amazing to work with. More details on them below.
Crochet faux locs are great alternatives if you don’t want to make a lifetime commitment to dreadlocks.
Personally, I don’t think I could ever commit to loc my natural hair no matter how low maintenance it is, I’d rather get a short pixie cut.
WHY DIY CROCHET FAUX LOCS?
1) As faux locs are a great alternative to dreadlocks, they are also a great alternative to braids. Don’t get me wrong, I love getting my hair braided, but different hair braiding styles take time. However, this DIY faux locs style took about 3 hours. I have a feeling I could have done in about 2 hours if I didn’t take breaks in between.
2) Installing the faux locs required a basic braid pattern, a few plaits around the perimeter of my head, and a couple of braids going backward. The style is easy to create, which is why it is DIYable.
3) I’ve had the style in for about 2 weeks now, and it is low maintenance. Every 2-3 days, I oil my scalp with my favorite hair oil. At night I use a satin scarf to protect my strands.
4) My hair feels protected as this makes a great protective style, which results in low manipulation of my hair.
5) The faux locs hair I used is budget-friendly and came with a brand new crochet needle. Of course, I provided the labor, time, and talent.
6) The compliments I’ve gotten on this style are beyond encouraging and make the money and time spent worth it. The hair I used is amazing. there is no smell, it is lightweight, soft and bouncy. The color (1B-27) is beautiful and should complement any skin tone. I received 7 packs which were more than enough for a full head.
