Have you heard the noise?
Is the natural hair movement dead? Has it failed black women?
For ages, afro-hair has gone against the Eurocentric society standards. In the early 1960s, black women started to feel confident in their natural beauty, hence the rise of the natural hair movement.
Lately, however, the natural hair movement is taking a U-turn. Blogs, influencers, and natural hair enthusiasts are overemphasizing wigs, hair relaxers, and keratin treatments.
That leaves us wondering, what is going on?
1). TOO MANY RULES
So many rules must be followed that sometimes hinder our regular life, like being able to work out regularly so your hair doesn’t sweat.
You must avoid heat styling as much as possible or inorganic products. You are limited to many hairstyles; the list goes on and on.
Abiding by so many rules in the name of being natural can push people away from natural hair movement.
2). EXPENSIVE
Going natural means you have to invest in natural hair care products. These products are gentler on the skin and hair texture and are rich in natural ingredients that boost your hair’s health. However, nobody prepares you for the price you’ll pay for these organic products. This high cost of maintaining natural hair makes people want to quit the natural hair movement.
3). EXHAUSTING
Maintaining natural hair is not for the faint-hearted, especially if you have a packed schedule. The washday process can take hours. What about styling? That’s hours upon hours you will never get back.

I have thick thick hair when I use to go to the hairdressers, 1. They always wanted to cut my hair
2. They wanted to thin it out
3. Would make me wait to do my hair. Always heard that I could to two to three heads by the time I finished your hair.
4. I could have an appointment and I would end waiting until the last customer was finished or come back the next day.
I lost my beautiful hair, the last school I worked in the pipes broke in our office, Imy face broke out within minutes after a while I was combing my hair and lost 89 percent of my hair. I have used so many different products and methods that I gave up. Then I got two V’s on each side my hair line.
I was In Walmart shopping for new hair products to help my hair grow. I forgot to say I did try the rice water, didn’t work. So these two ladies had been watching me look over the hair products. One asked me what I was looking for. I explained to her my hair issues and she said to me. Don’t buy any of these products. You must go to Sally’s and buy this product and buy this new style brush and only use it when you wash and condition your hair. I bought the new brush and went to Sally’s and bought the oil for my hair. I seen a little hair growth. But I still have the two V’s in the front of my hair. What is your suggestion? Jo Barnett
